In the month of April, the gums in my mouth started to get very sensitive. Every time I brushed or flossed, I would start bleeding. It was very hard for me to brush my teeth without being in pain. I have never had anything like this happened to me before. I just could not figure out what was wrong. At first I thought, it must be the way I was brushing or flossing my teeth. I could only hope that it was nothing serious. I also noticed that my period did not come on the 18th like the month before. I decided to wait a few more days before taking a pregnancy test. On April 22nd, I bought three pregnancy test since I like to retest to make sure that the first test was correct. The test came out positive with two lines. I was kind of surprised, since we only had sex once that month.
According to my calculations, I should have been week seven while I was in Hawaii. I didn't have any sickness or cravings until my flight home. On the airplane ride back, which was about 10 hours, I started to get morning sickness. Of course, morning sickness isn't just for morning as I learned, I started having it almost all the time. I didn't actually throw up on the flight, thank god, just felt like it. Over all the flight was not so bad.
The next day after I was home from Hawaii, I decided to tell my husband that I was pregnant. I know that it wasn't the surprise I wanted to do for him on our anniversary or Father's day, but I just could not wait. I was also going to give him something to remember that moment, but I couldn't find what I was looking for in Hawaii. While on a golf cart ride home, I told him that I was pregnant. He looked at me and asked if I were kidding and I told him I wasn't. The last thing he remembered was my doctor telling us that we could not get pregnant. So he was kind of caught of guard when I told him that I was pregnant. Then he kissed me and told me how great it was. I told him I wanted to wait to let him know until I found the perfect moment, but because I was feeling sick and would probably be throwing up before too long, I knew that I would not be able to hide it. And I was right, the next day, I started vomiting.
I had brought quite a bit of snacks from Hawaii that was hard to find in the area where I lived. And any other time, I would just eat these things up and they would be gone in no time. However, this time there was something wrong with me. I couldn't even stand to look at the pastries that I had brought home. I would take a bite of something and stop. I felt bad because I was wasting almost everything that I brought back home since my husband didn't like them as much as I did. I finally started to feel that I was pregnant.
Although I couldn't stand to eat all the things I brought home from Hawaii, I did feel hungry all the time. I had to have food in me every thirty minutes at least. I never really believed people when they said you better keep crackers with you all the time because you will need them, until now. So I bought a whole box of crackers and did not leave the house without them. I even started to bring them to bed with me. I would end up eating right before I fell asleep and first thing in the morning when I woke up.
I never really believed all the things people talked about pregnancy, until I was there. There were foods that I used to like and now couldn't stand to see or smell. There were foods I would normally not eat but now eating. My husband got used to me being very picky about what and where we would eat. I also started to drink a lot of milk while in Hawaii, since I knew that it was good for me while pregnant, but as soon as I got home, I really couldn't stand drinking milk. I had to quit and didn't start drinking milk again for quite a few weeks later.
Morning sickness for me was not bad, but was not easy either. I would gag at about anything. I couldn't brush my teeth because the toothbrush or toothpaste would make me throw up. I ended up brushing my teeth very fast to get it over with and that would still make me throw up. There were even days when I felt too sick to get out of bed in the morning. It would sometimes take me over an hour or more to get up and into the shower.
